Copper-colored iPhone 8 could be the new hotness now that rose gold is over

The iPhone 8 is expected to be announced next month, and the leaks just won’t stop coming ahead of the official launch.

Newly leaked images posted to China’s Weibo social network via 9to5Mac claim this year’s big 10th anniversary iPhone might come in a new “copper gold” color. RIP rose gold?

The new color rumor originates from an iPhone 8 dummy unit. While these mock-up models have become quite good in recent years, it’s hard to say if these new images are authentic or if the color is even representative of the real version Apple might announce in September.

For all we know, this could be the rose gold version and the lighting in the photos is making it look different. Some of us at Mashable think it looks kinda poop-colored, but maybe that’s just us.

As a dummy unit the design certainly matches up with all of the rumors we’ve been hearing about the next iPhone. In one photo, the phone’s new edge-to-edge display and cutout for the earpiece, camera and sensors is clearly visible.

The back of the units also show the vertically-aligned dual-camera system and the sides have an elongated home button.

Whether it’s a new color or not, the iPhone is drumming up quite the excitement, mainly because leaks continue to drip out like there’s no tomorrow.

Apple’s own HomePod firmware last week was the mother of all leaks and digital sleuths keep discovering more things about the new iPhone inside of the code.

Here are few things we feel fairly confident the iPhone 8 will come with:

  • Edge-to-edge OLED display
  • Dual cameras with new 3D depth sensor for advanced AR
  • Wireless charging
  • Glass back design with stainless steel frame
  • Face recognition and unlock with infrared detection
  • 4K video recording at 60 fps for both the front and back cameras
  • No headphone jack
  • No Touch ID fingerprint sensor (possibly replaced with face payments)

The new features add up to a phone that’s likely to cost more than the existing iPhone 7 Plus, which maxes out at $970 for the Jet Black model with 256GB of storage. Several reports claim this year’s iPhone could cost more than $1,000. Shortages could also constrain supply and delay Apple’s newest iPhone until months after its announcement next month.

We’ve only got a month to go, so sit back, enjoy the last days of summer, and breathe. It’s just a new iPhone and maybe a new color. Or is it?
