Indian air travellers buying TVs from abroad will have to pay extra if they’re importing it in the coming weeks. To strengthen the Rupee against the rising US Dollar, government has decided “disallow import of flat panel (LCD/LED/plasma) television as part of free baggage allowance”. The notification will go into effect from August 26.

Currently, Indians coming from abroad were allowed to bring a TV for their personal use in India without any duty.

The new move will be a sigh of relief for TV manufacturers who had stopped acknowledging warranties for imported TV sets.
